What I learned from this scenario is the mother did not have the right to speak for herself, via. Patient Bill of Rights. The denial and aggression, concern the Nurse to have the family rationalize with the mother without having her speak for herself. What are some of the main problems or key issues expressed in the scenario? Having the sisters argue in front of the mother and the children disturbing her rest period. The nurse may actively listen but should not let tension linger while the client is being under pressure of her status. What were some of the challenging decisions the nurse needed to make? The Nurse could have asked the concerns and terms that were given to them about the mother’s condition. What factors influenced your decisions and responses during the scenario? Actively listen, do not intervene in family matters, being biased and neutral to the status, and always advocating for the patient’s right. Not in a clinical setting, but when I was four my grandma made it very clear and precise of her condition when she will depart. This piece of information at a very young age taught me to understand that there is a boundary we can not cross over when someone is compromising with you to understand. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having families discuss treatment options, including end-of-life decisions before a loved one becomes ill or early in a terminal illness. Explain the factors that influenced this response What I have identified as some of the main issues in the scenario is the differences of loved ones being involved and to respect those opinions. What were some of the challenging decisions the nurses made? Describe the rationale behind these decisions. The challenges in the decisions the nurses made, is compromising with the sisters of the mother’s decision because she was aware that the mother is suffering but could not speak up. It is a good observation as a nurse to catch client’s needs. What influenced your decisions during the scenario? The conflict of the client being in silence . If a wrong decision was made during the scenario, what were you thinking that led you down an incorrect path? When a wrong decision is made, I use more active listening and keeping a neutral reaction.
